How Natura Works With WELL & IWBI
Natura’s indoor plant products have recently become aligned with International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) standards. We can officially say that our indoor plants Work with WELL!
At Natura, our greatest goal is to help people thrive, which makes our latest achievement even more exciting!
We’ve recently acquired the eligibility to use the ‘Works with WELL’ trademark for our Indoor Plants. The ‘Works with WELL’ initiative was created by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). This milestone confirms that our Indoor Plants align with specific health strategies within the WELL Building Standard (WELL), which we’ll dive into below.
What is the WELL Building Standard?
Launched in 2014, WELL is the world’s leading standard that focuses on advancing people’s health and well-being with a library of holistic, evidence-based strategies applicable across buildings, organizations and communities. Developed over 10 years and backed by the latest scientific research, WELL outlines key building-level interventions and organizational strategies across 10 concept areas:
- Air
- Water
- Nourishment
- Light
- Movement
- Thermal Comfort
- Sound
- Materials
- Mind
- Community.
WELL adoption is driven by the global demand for healthier places and healthier organizations that support people to thrive.

How is Natura aligned with WELL standards?
The Indoor Plants in our catalogue work to support the WELL Building Standard’s Mind and Movement concept areas, and aligns with Nature and Place, Enhanced Access to Nature, and Circulation Network feature specifications.
The alignment between Indoor Plants and such WELL feature(s) is one of the many examples of our commitment to advancing products and solutions that support human health and well-being.
In the simplest of ways, we understand that by having a plant, people feel better. If you feel better, you’ll naturally be mentally better in your job, at home, and at your role within your greater community. Plants aren’t simply aesthetic; they help people positively impact their communities, improve their lives and their neighborhoods, by feeling better. The presence of indoor plants creates a better, healthier environment where people can thrive.
Aligning with WELL standards gives us further concrete evidence supporting our mission. Our products align with the following WELL features(s):
- Our indoor plants actively promotes positive mental health of occupants, supporting their well-being by incorporating natural and biophillic elements into the building’s interior designs. These elements provide a connection to nature, in accordance with the WELL Nature and Place standard under the Mind concept area.
- In a similar way, our indoor plants integrate nature and natural elements into interior designs. An example is the creation of Green Spaces. Our biophillic designs and indoor plants will meet WELL’s standard of at least 75% of common spaces having direct line-of-sight to indoor plants.
- Our indoor plants are also compatible with aesthetic staircase designs, meeting WELL’s standard of Movement, specifically Circulation Network.
How does our WELL Standard alignment benefit you?
The ultimate goal of both the IWBI and Natura is to improve the health and happiness of a building’s occupants. This naturally has a ‘trickle down effect’ which will benefit the entire company or corporation associated with the building and its occupants.
Property managers, multi-tenant buildings, and the hospitality industry will benefit most from the uptake of WELL building standards.
Our top priority is employee health and wellness. We’ve seen that indoor plants contribute to reduced absenteeism, greater employee engagement, and increased productivity. From a property managers perspective, we know that having plants in their lobby contributes to higher lease rates and longer tenured tenants that stay. The same can be said for the hospitality industry.
These benefits are not exclusive to the above industries, though, and anyone who adopts the standards can benefit. Wellness is emerging as one of the most important factors in employment and building occupancy.
Our core purpose and mission is to create environments where people thrive. We know that a direct link to that is through biophilic design. We love the fact that we have WELL saying the exact same thing with scientific evidence to continue to back up what we know—that plants make a difference. We’ve seen time and time again that wellness affects every area of our lives, which is why we believe so strongly in biophilic designs' ability to impact physical, mental, and emotional health. It aligns perfectly with what we're trying to accomplish by creating environments where people thrive
