Office Holiday Decorating Ideas

The holiday season is all about sharing and giving. It's the perfect time to give back to the team that helps your business thrive. One way to do this is to create a warm and welcoming holiday landscape in your space. Not only will this boost the mood of your team, but your holiday landscape can also help increase sales and attract more clients/customers.

Ready to get started? Here are a few office holiday decorating tips that are sure to bring the holiday magic to your space.

Decide on a Design Theme

Building a cohesive holiday landscape can be difficult, but by deciding on a theme for your decor beforehand, you can ensure that all of your decor elements align with each other. Selecting a design theme before you start decorating will also help you ensure that your planned decor aligns with your brand image. There are two things you'll want to think about when you're choosing a decor theme.

The first consideration is color. You can choose to use a more traditional color palette with reds and greens, or you can opt for something more modern, like a neutral color palette. Depending on the decor provider you're working with, you may even be able to build a custom decor theme from scratch with a palette that aligns with your brand colors. Be sure that whichever color palette you decide on aligns with the mood you want to create with your design.

The second thing you'll need to think about is the mood you want your holiday landscape to have. Do want something neutral but wintery? Or, how about something that has a warm and comforting feel? The mood you select for your design will have a huge impact on what decor elements you should use. For example, you wouldn't want to invest in elves or Santa's if you want your design to be more neutral. You'd want to invest in bears or deer instead. The same is true if you're going for a brighter, more festive design. You'd want to have multi-colored lights and other colorful decor elements.

If you're stuck between multiple themes, consider allowing your team to help you choose. You can hold a vote or place all the potential themes in a hat and let someone draw one. This can help alleviate the pressure that falls on you when choosing your design theme.

Deck the Cubicles

Most offices consist of several cubicles that create a maze of pathways throughout the space. You may not be able to see inside each cubicle, but decorating the outside of your teams' cubicles can help make the entire space feel more festive. To build upon this, you can encourage team members to decorate their own cubicles to further enhance your holiday landscape.

Make sure that your team feels personally invested in the design of your space. A study conducted by Forbes found that employees who feel a personal connection to their workspace are not only happier but also more productive. So, the more you can do to include employees in the design process, the more benefits you'll be able to reap from your holiday landscape.

Giving your team the ability to add their own, personal decorations to their workspace will help create this investment in your holiday landscape. This also creates an opportunity for teams to bond. Coworkers sharing a space will be able to collaborate on the look and feel of their cubicle. While working together to create a mini holiday landscape, they will also be able to learn more about each other and how they can work together.

Don't Forget the Lobby

Not every space has a lobby, but if you do have a lobby or reception area, don't forget to decorate it. Reception areas are the perfect place for larger, more elaborate holiday decor. Depending on the size of your lobby, you may even be able to incorporate a tower tree, like the one pictured above, into your holiday landscape. You can also add garland, ribbons, or flickering lights to your space to enhance your curb appeal.

Your reception areas will be the first thing clients, guests, and employees see when they enter your space, so it's crucial that the design of these areas leaves a lasting impression on visitors. Here are a few other elements you can add to help you achieve this:

  • Place fake presents underneath trees or on top of tables and counters
  • Add seasonal flowers like Amaryllis or Poinsettias to your planters
  • Fill empty spaces with artificial snow and other decor elements
  • Incorporate lighted decor elements into your window displays
  • Enhance elevator bays and other open spaces with garland, sprays, and wreaths

Investing in the design of your lobby will ensure that your space is memorable, keeping your business front of mind for existing and potential clients year-round.

Decorating for the holidays may not seem like too important of a task, but a strategically designed holiday landscape can have a huge impact on your business.
