Johnson Jackson Opens New Office with a Biophilic Makeover by Natura

Live plants make a huge difference in business environments. Mental health benefits aside, strategic plant choice, along with biophilic office design, can help you enhance the overall aesthetic of your business. The right choice of planters and plant species will liven up your space and bring the design, as a whole, together. In a world where first impressions can make or break a deal, this is especially important. Florida law firm Johnson Jackson is aware of this, which is why they brought us onboard to assist them with the interior landscape of their brand-new, high-rise office in the heart of downtown Tampa.

Meet Johnson and Jackson

Johnson Jackson is an established Tampa law firm specializing in employment law.  The firm recently moved to a new office in the city’s downtown district, which is currently experiencing tremendous growth and an influx of new tenants looking to experience Tampa life.  While the firm’s partners are heavily focused on the complex employment needs of their clients, they are just as passionate about creating a bright, inviting space for their own associates and employees.

“We have a deep commitment to our clients providing them with employment advice and solutions that meet their needs, and we wanted to demonstrate that commitment to our own staff and team.  When we planned to move to a new space, we turned to professionals, like Gensler, to help us design our suite for both effectiveness and efficiency.  It turned out great and for the finishing touch, we turned to Natura to provide the plants and natural elements to make it even more inviting and welcoming.”

Meet Natura

At Natura, we are a leading provider of office plants in Florida and Texas – and our roots in Tampa go all the back to the 80’s.  As part of our strategy to offer industry-leading designs and service, we are developing plans to utilize a soil substrate we call Natura-PON™ – getting its name from “Vulkaponic” imported exclusively by Natura from Europe.

“Different industries view research and development from various lenses. Any innovative methods for configuring our plants and people for long-term success are on our R&D radar.  And that’s where Natura-Pon™ comes in – its unique mixture of zeolites and pumice derived from volcanic activity over 500 years ago.  It allows us to use fewer resources in delivering and maintaining high-quality foliage plants in customers’ environments.”

- Mike Senneff, Founder

What is Natura-PonTM ?

NaturaPONThe Natura-Pon™ set-up is a modified sub-irrigation system allowing a reservoir of water to be held directly beneath a plant’s root system.  Water is stored in the Natura-Pon substrate below the plant but does not come into direct contact with the roots.  As a plant transpires moisture from the surface of its leaves, the water is moved up through capillary action and then absorbed by the plant’s roots. This configuration produces a more advantageous mixture of solid particles, water, and air/oxygen that keeps the plant healthy and vibrant for a long time.

The Project

Once we were contacted by the Johnson Jackson team, our designers got right to work assisting them with their design. The design process comes with several considerations. Before our consultants start drafting a design, they’ll make note of the site’s layout, existing decor, availability of light, and the overall aesthetic that the client wants their design to have. In the case of Johnson Jackson, it was a clean, modern look. This made Johnson Jackson’s office the perfect office for Natura-Pon™. Not only is Natura-Pon™ great for the longevity of plants, but the look of Pon is distinctly modern and clean. For businesses, like Johnson Jackson, that are looking to bring this sort of aesthetic to their office, Natura-Pon™ is a near perfect match.

“As per our playbook, we started with selecting the right plants for the right spots in JJ’s new space.  We went through several rounds of plant and planter selection to get the sizing, style, and overall palette in line with the customer’s goals.  Utilizing our new substrate in the plantings was just a bonus and will have a long-lasting positive impact for us and Johnson Jackson.”

- Jeremy Noles, Tampa Account Executive

The same considerations were made when deciding on the rest of Johnson Jackson’s interior landscape. Black planters were selected to help the planters stand out against the bright walls and large, floor-to-ceiling windows of their office. Even the plants themselves were carefully selected to align with the look of Johnson Jackson’s space.

The Now

Earlier this year, Johnson Jackson hosted clients, elected officials, and vendors for their new office’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.  The ceremony featured giveaways, refreshments, and a variety of other activities that allowed guests to mingle with each other and the Jackson Johnson team. Guests were also able to experience the stunning views that their new office had to offer. These views were further enhanced by the large, leafy plants throughout the office. With their new office open and plenty of plants to liven up the space, the Johnson Jackson team is able to get back to doing the work that allows their clients to thrive.

“We’re positioned for the future, and we’re pleased that Natura is helping us with their industry-leading irrigation system.  It’s a great move for our team.”
