Last time, we briefly touched on the benefits of LED lighting for the holidays and how LED lights can save you a ton of money. Today, let’s take a closer look at the benefits and see what makes LED lighting such a worthwhile investment.

Benefits of LED lighting

Energy Consumption

The most well-known benefit of LED lighting has to be their energy efficiency. LED light bulbs are 90% more efficient than their incandescent counterparts and use 10% of the energy needed to power other products.

How are LEDs so efficient? The answer is simple, they produce less heat.

Because LED bulbs generate minimal heat in their use of electricity, less energy is lost when generating light. This means a higher percentage of the electricity goes towards creating light. LED bulbs reduce the amount of electricity needed to keep your lights running thus reducing energy costs for the building.

Longevity & Durability

Not only are LED lights energy efficient, but they also last a lot longer than comparable products. They have an astonishingly long lamp life and are built to survive natural wear and tear. LED lights may be expensive, but they don't need to be replaced as often as other types of lights do. Your LED lights won't burn out and they won't break.

Alternative lights, like incandescent light bulbs, use a fragile filament that heats up enough to create a glow. This process causes significantly more wear and tear than the process used to create light in LED light bulbs. Instead of creating a glow with heat, LED light bulbs convert electricity directly into light.

Because LEDs are solid-state devices and encased in plastic with no fragile parts, they are highly resistant to damage caused by movement, which is a leading cause of early bulb failure in incandescent lights. They are also constructed with epoxy lenses, rather than glass, which makes them more rigid than incandescent bulbs. Most LED bulb housings are molded directly to the wire which also makes them both moisture and temperature resistant. These design choices ensure that LED bulbs last longer so you will not need to replace them at the frequency you would have to replace their incandescent counterparts.
